Ethnic Skull Cap

This hat was described as a vintage ethnic cap with embroidery and mirrors.

While the seller's description of ethnic does not tie it to a particular culture, I think it feels Persian, like a Persian rug for your head.

Doppa

 

The Doppa is a cap that normally has a square base

The hat is worn by the Uzbeks of Afghanistan and Uyghurs which are part China.

The hat is derived from a hat worn in Khwarazmians empire which was a more pointed cap, which can be seen in some of the portraits of the last ruler of the empire Jalaleddin Mingburnu.

The hats are quite firm and shaped around a mould

Cheap Chinese Style Hat

 This hat is about as cheap as they come and even as a novelty hat not recommended

Mimicking some other watermelon style oriental hats, this is made of some cheap fabric over some thin foam, that both makes it uncomfortable and a poor fit. The shiny fabric is slippery and this makes it readily just fall off your head, no matter how tight you pull it down

I have a similar hat here and although also a novelty hat far more comfortable and better made

Religious Hat

I think this is crocheted hat, but as I'm neither a knitter or crocheter, I'm probably wrong. 

The hat is not very stretchy but still fits well and is very comfortable to wear, the sort of hat you could wear all day without noticing.

Not following a particular religion this is therefore not something I would wear socially, so for Larp use only.

The cross crosslet in the design of the hat is not associated with any particular Christian religion, at least as far as I can tell, its more associated with the spreading of Christianity, i.e. its also called the missionary cross.

The hat has 2 little toggles hanging from the centre button, if anyone knows what they are called I would love to know.

Arming Cap

This padded cap is designed to be worn under a metal helmet

The cap helps stabilise and make the helmet worn over it more comfortable, I also expect it helps protect a little against the shock of blows to the helmet.

Made of thick cotton canvass, then filled with extra layers of fabric.

White Skull Cap

This white fabric skull cap has a turn-up band around the rim.

 The cap is almost the same as the docker cap in a previous post but lacks the button on top and adjustable band, this is more of a medieval or religious cap.

 There is one seam front to back, the shape comes from the stretching of the fabric.

In the photo below its shown worn with a coif underneath.

Skull Past

This wool felt skull cap is one of my oldest hats

Made from 8 triangles of fabric sewn together

Not worn much recently, but one that got worn often.

Zucchetto Like

This skull cap is on the edge of being a zucchetto however zucchettos are typically much shallower, resting rather than clinging to the head.

The hat also does not include the little stem or cord that comes out of the centre of the hat where the panels meet.

Still, the 8 panelled cap is traditional for a zucchetto and the bright red colour makes it look a very religious hat.

Skull caps are one of those hats that don't really offer any practical use other than their aesthetic purpose.

Way of the Dragon

Yet another oriental novelty hat

I now have 4 of these hats in different colours, they are all basically the same pattern, even the badge is the same symbol.

This style of hat I believe originates from the Chinese Qing Dynasty.

The best thing about these hats is they are cheap.

Bloodied Bandages

This set of bandages is actually a hat.

What could be better than a blood soak hat made of bandages to instantly make you look like you just survived a battle head injury.

The bandages have been sewn onto simple cotton skull cap and fake blood applied.

This gets a lot of use.

Chinese Style

A basic novelty Chinese style merchant skull cap see in many a Hong Kong movie

Worn also by nobles, wealthy children.

Novelty hats of this style can be found all over eBay and the like for well under £10
